The Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, is accredited by National Board of Examinations (NBE) to offer specialised 3-year post doctoral training in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery leading to DNB in Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery. The CTVS Department has had from its inception a useful and effective combination of most modern and sophisticated class of equipment that has helped perform more than sixteen years of surgery.

A 20-bedded fully equipped ICU supports the two operating rooms where the entire gamut of cardiac surgery is performed. Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Valve repairs & replacements, Congenital and complex congenital including cyanotic & acyanotics, Aortic Aneurysm surgery, Cardiac tumors, Pericardial disease are regularly operated upon in this unit.

Cardiothoracic Surgery DNB post doctoral programmme provides integrated training in all areas of cardiac and thoracic surgery through an intensive three-year didactic, clinical, and investigative training programmme. This program is dedicated to the education of individuals to become excellent surgeons.

The annual intake is one candidate. The three-year training programme commences in January every year. Entry into the training program is by an entrance examination held in December or January. The examination comprises a multiple choice question paper in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, clinical examination and a viva voce.

The candidate should have completed the MS (General Surgery) or DNB (General Surgery) and qualified in Centralised Entrance Test conducted by the National Board of Examinations.

Stipend is paid as prescribed by the National Board of Examinations. In campus single accommodation is provided.

Hospital has a canteen for doctors and other hospital staff providing food at a reasonable price.
