DNB Cardiology  

The Cardiology Department at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram has been accredited by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), Government of India, for imparting 3 years training to two candidates a year in the speciality of Cardiology and to prepare them for taking examinations conducted by the NBE, conducted once in an year in December.
During the 3 year period, the residents are given graded clinical responsibilities by way of periodic posting in Non-Invasive Cardiology (including daily routine admissions) and invasive Cardiology (including acute care, pre-operative and post- operative care).

In non-invasive labs, residents will be trained to clinically evaluate the patients and perform non-invasive tests like echocardiography, stress tests, trans-esophagal echocardiography (TEE) and holter monitoring.

In the invasive labs, the residents will be trained to perform diagnostic catheterisations and interventions, which include PTCA, PBMV, PBAV, PBPV and other balloon dilatations and TPI/PPI. Also pericardiocentisis and peripheral artery and renal artery stenting. Occasionally the residents are also exposed to procedures like procedures like ICD, PDA, coiling and ASD devise closure.

The Department has future plans to take up procedures like RF Ablation (Electrophysiology study) with a backup of expertise of visiting faculty from India and abroad.

Trainees will also be trained in pre and post surgical evaluation of patients. Aspects of medical and surgical management will be learnt by the trainees by the way of cath conferences, weekly grand rounds, bedside teaching, and seminar presentations. There are regular journal clubs and CMEs to keep them up to date with happenings in the field of Cardiology.

Stipend is paid as prescribed by the National Board of Examinations. In campus single accommodation is provided.

Hospital has a canteen for doctors and other hospital staff providing food at a reasonable price.

Candidates who have passed MD/DNB in General Medicine or Paediatrics and Central Entrance Test are eligible to apply for 3 years training for session commencing from January every year. The selection is based on marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test held every year in December/January by the National Board of Examinations, within a week or announcement of the results of the Common Entrance Test.
