The National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, an autonomous body directly under the Government of India, awards post-graduate and post-doctoral degrees called “Diplomate of the National Board (DNB)”, which are equivalent to post-graduate degrees M.D. or M.S. and post-doctoral qualifications of Indian universities - D.M., M.Ch.
Doctors, who wish to appear for the examinations conducted by the National Board of Examinations, should undergo three years in hospitals or institutes accredited by the National Board of Examinations.
Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prashanthigram, has been accredited by the National Board of Examinations for providing training to doctors in the specialities of Cardiology, Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), Urology, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology and Orthopaedics.
The number of candidates admitted for training in this Institute every year is two each for cardiology, urology, ophthalmology, anaesthesiology and orthopaedics, and one for, CTVS. The period of training is 3 years.
Eligibility
Super Specialities: Cardiology, CTVS, Urology
Candidates should be in possession of a recognised postgraduate degree, M.D (General Medicine) or Paediatrics for Cardiology and M.S. (General Surgery) for CTVS and Urology. The candidates should have qualified in the Central Entrance Test conducted by the National Board of Examinations held once a year in December/January.
Broad Specialities: Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Anaesthesiology
For Broad Specialities:
1. The applicant should be a medical graduate recognized under the Medical Council of India Act, 1956 and other qualification as may be recognised by the Medical Council of India from time to time.
2. The applicant should have passed the Centralised Entrance Test (CET-NBE) which will be held twice a year by the National Board of Examinations held twice an year in June and December.
Academic Activities
There is an active Academic Council, which organises periodic meetings and lectures on subjects of interest for doctors and medical staff. Departmental meetings are also arranged for DNB trainees for discussion of interesting cases. Specialities visiting the hospital also share their knowledge and experience with doctors in the hospital.
The doctors of CTVS and Cardiology of our sister institution SSSIHMS, Whitefield, Bangalore, and our hospital organize weekly video conferencing sessions to discuss specific cases.

Candidates interested should apply on a plain paper, enclosing photocopies of matriculation, Medical and Post graduate degree certificate, copy of the certificate issued by the National Board of Examinations of having passed the CET-NBE and one passport size photograph. The trainees should produce original certificates at the time of aptitude assessment test / counseling.
The selection is bases on the aptitude assessment test for Broad specialities and score in CET (super specialities) for super specialities.
