DNB Ophthalmology  

The Ophthalmology Department at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, has been accredited by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), Government of India, for imparting training for two candidates a year in the discipline of Ophthalmology and to prepare them for taking the examination conducted by the NBE. The candidate should have passed MBBS and the Central Entrance Test conducted by the National Board of Examinations conducted in June and December every year. The selection is based on aptitude assessment test. The candidate has to apply before 15th January and appear for Aptitude Assessment Test held before January 21st . The candidate has to join immediately after.

During the 3-year period, the residents are given graded clinical responsibilities by way of periodical posting in the OPD, OT and the Ward (for post operative care).

Residents will be trained in pre and post surgical evaluation of patients. They will be being trained for surgeries of cataract with IOL, glaucoma surgeries, retinal surgeries, squint surgeries and laser surgeries. They will also be trained in Ascan, Bscan, Humphery field analyser, FFA and observation of Laser and Yag Capsulotomy. Bedside teaching and seminar presentations are also a part of the curriculum. There are regular journal clubs and CMEs to keep the residents them updated with happenings in the field of ophthalmology.

Stipend would be as prescribed by the National Board of Examinations. In campus single accommodation is provided.
Hospital has a canteen for doctors and other hospital staff providing food at a reasonable price.

Interested candidates many send their application on plain paper enclosing copies of Medical Degree Certificate, passing of the Central Entrance Test, of NBE , registration certificate of the State Medical Council and a passport size photograph.
