The department of Plastic Surgery began functioning at the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, from July 1997. The first operation was conducted on September 15, 1997. One unique feature of the department is that it is the only one of its kind in a 300 km diameter around Puttaparthi town. However, the department has seen patient inflow not only from the adjoining areas, but also from various parts of the country and abroad.
The role of plastic surgery in a patient’s life goes beyond just reconstruction and reparation. Plastic surgery also helps in the alleviation of the mental trauma that a patient suffers from, which helps the individual to face the world with confidence.
The plastic surgery ward currently has 16 beds.
