Gastroenterology is the medical specialty that includes the preservation, investigation and the restoration of the form and function of disorders of the digestive system by medical and non-surgical methods.
The purpose of the Gastroenterology Department at the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, and Sri Sathya General Hospital (SSSGH), Prasanthi Nilayam is to provide and ensure the delivery of FREE medical care to all patients with gastrointestinal diseases in the out-patient and in-patient setting.
The aim of the Gastroenterology unit is to promote up-to-date safe endoscopy care to all in need and facilitate education in gastrointestinal diseases and management.
Facilities and Services
We are currently providing both Upper Endoscopy (EGD) and Lower Endoscopy (Colonoscopy) procedures on a regular basis. During endoscopy, we have been able to provide specific testing and therapeutic modalities. These include the following:
In addition to providing endoscopy service for out-patients, we are providing endoscopy services for in-patients at both SSSIHMS and SSSGH in Puttaparthi.
Out-Patient Consultation Services
The Gastroenterology Unit has an out-patient department at the SSSGH in Puttaparthi and patients are seen every morning from Monday to Saturday. The facility began on 14th July, 2008.
Types of diseases currently being seen in the OPD clinic: Gastrointestinal (majority), Hepatic and Hepato-Pancreatico-biliary diseases.
Patients are requested to visit the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Puttaparthi for screening and registration and visit Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram only after they are asked to do so.
In-Patient Consultation Services
Additionally, the department is providing in-patient consultations for various Gastrointestinal diseases both at SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram and at SSSGH.
